Choosing Safer Products

Choosing products that are better for our bodies can be overwhelming, to say the least. How are we supposed to know what’s good or bad?? I wrote a post to help explain why we want to choose safer products, and in this post I will hopefully help make that process easier.

PRACTICAL TIPS

So what are you supposed to do?? I wanted to share a few practical tips to navigate this realm, and also a few of my favorite brands.

  1. Check the products that you’re currently using to find out if they’re safe! I use the Environmental Working Group app. You can look up all your products and ingredients in them and find out exactly how toxic they are. There’s also another app that works great called Think Dirty. The only thing I like better about EWG is they consider sourcing into their rating.
  2. Slowly transition to safer options. You do not have to overwhelm yourself by trying to do it all at once. That way can be expensive and time consuming but it doesn’t have to be! When you run out of one product, replace it with a new, safer option!
  3. Educate yourself. Do your research and take the time to learn about how the products you’re using in your home and on your body are really affecting you and your family. A great place to start is by following social media accounts who are talking about this. A couple of my favorites are Just.ingredients and ireadlabelsforyou.

MY FAVORITE SAFER PRODUCTS

It has taken me years to switch my products over, so don’t overwhelm yourself by doing it all at once. And I’d be lying if I said I’ve transitioned everything, I for sure have not. It’s a process! But I do finally have some favorites and I’m excited to share them with you! Just click on the picture to learn more about each one.

Deodorant: I love Primally Pure. I’ve been using it for 3 years and I don’t see myself switching anytime soon. It honestly works better than any I ever used before I switched to non-toxic! I’m also very sensitive to baking soda in deodorant, and this one doesn’t bother me one bit. You can also use the code “NOURISHEDLIFE” for 10% off your first order.

Skincare: Okay, this is a big one, because everyone’s skin needs are very different. There is absolutely no one-size-fits-all. I highly encourage you to fill out my free skincare questionnaire and I’ll give you some recommendations for your specific needs. But I will say this, I personally love Beautycounter most. I have struggled with acne for as long as I can remember. I was always self conscious of my skin! But my skincare routine with Beautycounter has completely cleared it up. Like literally gone. I very rarely get a blemish, and when I do, it’s not that big of a deal and goes away very quickly. They have a few different regimens for different skin types, but as I said – I recommend discussing your specific needs with a consultant first (hi! that’s me).

Body Lotion: A few good options here! My favorites include Beautycounter, Primally Pure, and Tubby Todd (yes, it’s for kids, but it smells amazing and I love it for me too!).

Baby Products: There are actually more and more options popping up for this category, which is wonderful! My faves, once again, are Beautycounter, Primally Pure, and Tubby Todd. (You find your faves, and you don’t really stray, you know?)

Cleaning supplies: We use and love Branch Basics. I love it because it’s just one concentrate that you divide into their specified bottles and add water. It’s the easiest and also super effective and safe.

Well, I think that’s basically everything we use on a daily basis! If you have other questions, send me a message! I hope you found this helpful.

xo,

Adrienne
